How To Install and Use Morphe

Your first patch with Morphe takes 5 to 10 minutes, and most of that is spent downloading the original app. This guide follows Morphe Manager's default Simple mode with YouTube as the example. YouTube Music and Reddit work the same way.

Before you start

• A phone on Android 8.0 or newer. Root isn't needed.
• About 1 GB of free storage. Morphe keeps the original APK, the patched copy and temporary files at the same time, and warns you when space runs low.
• An internet connection. Patching itself happens on the phone, but Morphe downloads its patches on first launch, and you'll download the original APK from the web. Morphe doesn't upload your APKs or personal data.
• For Reddit only: the Play Store version has to be uninstalled before the patched one goes on, and anything stored only on the phone goes with it. YouTube and YouTube Music can stay installed.

1. Install Morphe Manager

Download the APK from the download page. Pick the Stable channel unless you specifically want nightly builds. Open the file and tap Install. The first time, Android asks you to allow installs from your browser or file manager; allow it and go back.

2. Pick YouTube and check the version

Open Morphe. The home screen lists the apps it can patch; tap YouTube. Morphe now shows the exact YouTube version the patches are made for. That number matters. Patches hook into specific code in the app, so a newer YouTube than the one listed usually fails or crashes.

If you already have the right APK, choose No, I already have an APK. Otherwise choose Yes, help me find an APK.

3. Download the original APK

Morphe shows a short explanation and then opens the correct page on APKMirror in your browser. The red button on Morphe's own screen is only a picture of what to look for; the real one is on the website, further down the page.

Two things trip people up here. Don't install the APK you download, because Morphe needs the untouched file. And ignore the site's "a more recent upload may be available" notice. Take exactly the version Morphe asked for.

If you end up with an .apkm, .apks or .xapk bundle, Morphe can handle it but warns that a full APK gives the best results. Go back and pick a plain APK download if the page has one.

4. Patch

Back in Morphe, select the file you just downloaded. If the Downloads folder doesn't show up in the picker, move the APK to the root of your internal storage, or switch to Morphe's built-in file picker in the settings.

Before the first run Morphe asks to be excluded from battery optimisation. Allow it. Some phones kill the patcher as soon as you switch apps, and the patch then fails halfway. Patching takes a few minutes. You can leave Morphe in the background; a notification arrives when it's done.

Simple mode applies a curated set of patches with default settings, so there's nothing to pick. If you want to choose them one by one, switch to Expert mode before patching. It lists every patch with its options, and shows a live log while it runs.

5. Install the patched app

On the completion screen, tap Install. Patched YouTube and YouTube Music get their own package name from the GmsCore support patch, so they install next to the Play Store versions. You can keep both, or disable the original so links open in the patched one.

Reddit is different. It keeps its original package name but is signed with a different key, so if the Play Store Reddit is still installed, Morphe reports an Uninstall required conflict. Uninstall the original and tap Install again.

Tap Save too if you want to keep the patched APK. It sits in temporary storage that Morphe clears the next time it starts.

When something goes wrong

• "Unsupported version" warning: you downloaded a different version from the one Morphe showed. Get the exact one.
• "Unverified APK" warning: the file isn't signed the way the original app should be. Download it again, from APKMirror rather than a random mirror.
• Patching fails or the app crashes: refresh the patch sources in Morphe and try again. If it keeps failing, export the debug log from Settings → System → About and attach it to an issue on the Morphe Manager GitHub.
• "App not installed": almost always a signature conflict with an older install. The App not installed guide goes through the other causes.

Updating later

Patched apps don't update from the Play Store. Morphe puts an Update badge on the app's card when new patches or a newer supported YouTube version are available. Tap it and patch again. Because Morphe signs every build with the same key, the new one installs over the old one and you keep your settings. That key lives in Morphe, so export it from the settings before you reset your phone or move to a new one.
